When I first got to college all I could think about were the parties. Unfortunately, I didn't know any of the people who partied. When I finally met some people, we all began to wonder where parties would be and wanted to go. The mistake we made was going to any and every party without looking into who lived in the neighborhood, was it a safe place, is there drinking, and how many people would be there.
Of course, when you go out with your friends you will all want to drink. However, someone has to be responsible enough to stay sober and drive. Lucky for me I had a friend who didn't drink so she would always drive us home.
One example of a time when me and my friends went to a party with drunk drivers, would be the time when we went to Oklahoma. We knew who was supposed to drink and who wasn't. Once we were ready to go we all got into our cars with the right drivers. Down the road one of our friends swerved off of the road and almost went into a ditch. He told us that he saw a deer and tried to avoid it. Since the area we were in wasn't common for having deer due to the bridge, no one believed him. Many people said that maybe he drunk that night and didn't tell anyone. No one really knows. But my point is, make sure your sober driver is not drinking anything. Only water, because even the juice could be spiked.
Also, when you go to parties try and have fun. Don't be the person who stands next to the wall and doesn't want to talk to anyone. Of course it will be awkward at first but as the night rolls on and you get to know these people you will find that you have a lot in common with them. You might even make friends that will last you a lifetime!
